Start Doing What’s Necessary Today To Achieve Weight Loss

“Start doing what’s necessary today to achieve your weight loss dreams of tomorrow.”

Most of the time people are obsessed with the scale when they start on their weight loss journey. I have had a traditional love-hate relationship with that darn thing.  I normally weigh myself once a month.  Otherwise, I worry what I am doing isn’t working, get depressed and it sets me back.

I know I weigh 218 pounds right now.  It isn’t the heaviest I have been in my life and certainly, not the lightest I have been.  Last year, I started on a weight loss journey and I did rather well, until I had a bout with plantar fasciitis and then shortly afterward, I fell sick with what I know now was an inherited autoimmune type of thyroid cancer.

You know what, when you get bad news and food has always been there to comfort you in the past, it suddenly becomes your best friend again. Especially when your told to take it easy and not push yourself. Cardio had become my best friend, after walking for a few months last year. I felt myself getting stronger and able to do anything, I had lost almost 20 pounds in a few, short months.

At the time I said ok, finally I’m getting somewhere.  I had just claimed ownership to my body again.  Then, wham!  A huge set back.

Thankfully, I have a wonderful husband who doesn’t always know what to say to comfort me.  Sure, you may see that as a hardship when you might need someone to support you and say some encouraging words. I will not count on spoken words from him but I can count on him to hold my hand and listen and insert something that will make me laugh.  Which eases my anxiety.

I also had an awesome team in Milwaukee that took care of me. I had surgery and I am doing fine, I just don’t like to talk about” it” with anyone.  I didn’t mention anything to my family members until a week before the surgery. My husband and I were the only two that knew for 4 weeks and that was a choice I made. Figured there wasn’t any reason to worry anyone else.  It was what it was, they couldn’t change the outcome and they couldn’t say anything to make me stop worrying.  It would work out however God wanted it to.

I have since been cleared of  cancer in my thyroid and my neck lymph node, which was the largest of the two scares. I was cleared to start back on my diet and exercise program after almost an 8 month vacation. Just have to montior my calcium and magnesium intake to combat my parathyroids deficit .

It is certainly difficult to start all over when I look back at where I was 6 months ago.  Six months ago, I could jump on the stair stepper and pound out 30 -60 minutes without missing a beat. Sometimes, twice a day.  Today, I am starting over.  Give me time, I will be where I want to be again.

I am an extremely determined woman with strong will power when I put my mind to something.  I don’t give up, or I should say, I don’t give up for long.  I might have a set back, but that is exactly how I tend to look at things, a set back. I examine my set back, re-evaluate, and then push forward to meet my goal.  This life goal will be no different.

It is snowed all night last night, so I will shovel the driveway this morning and then jump on my exercise bike in the basement to take a 30 minute ride. I’ll work around the cold factor for a few days.

Have I told you how much I’d like spring to arrive?  I’ll take singing in the rain over snow right about now.  Winters over! Bring on the rain to wash the road salt away and allow the beautiful daffodils and tulips to emerge.

So, are you ready to start doing what’s necessary today to achieve your weight loss dreams of tomorrow?
